Settle Into Your New Home Without Living Out of Boxes
An unpacking and organizing service in Mandeville is worth it if you want to get settled into your new home faster, avoid living out of boxes, or simply don’t have the time or energy to unpack everything yourself.
My Professional Organizer helps homeowners unpack, sort, and organize their belongings into practical systems so their home feels functional from day one.
Before hiring any company, take a few minutes to read verified reviews and credentials to make sure you’re choosing the right fit.
Your estimate depends on your home’s size, the number of boxes, your priorities, and the level of organizing you’d like us to provide.

What’s Included in Our Unpacking and Organizing Services
An unpacking and organizing service is about much more than opening moving boxes or carrying them from room to room.
We help you sort your belongings, put them where they make the most sense for your daily routine, and create organizing systems that are easy to maintain long after the move.
How the Process Works
Every unpacking and organizing project is a little different because every client, every home, and every move is different. Exactly what we help with depends on the areas you want organized and how much help you’re looking for.
One of the biggest benefits of hiring a professional organizer to unpack your home is that we don’t just take your belongings out of boxes and put them away. We’re actively organizing your home as we unpack.
For example, if miscellaneous items got packed together during the move, we’ll sort everything into categories before putting it away. We’ll group like items together, consolidate where it makes sense, and organize your drawers, cabinets, closets, pantry, and other spaces in a way that’s functional and easy to maintain.
Our goal isn’t just to get everything out of boxes. Our goal is to set your home up in a way that makes sense for you and your family, so it’s organized from the very beginning instead of simply putting things wherever they’ll fit.
We’ll also break down your moving boxes and help with the packing materials. Before we start, we’ll ask if you’d like to keep your boxes. Some clients know they’ll be moving again soon and want to save them so they don’t have to buy new ones later.
If you don’t want to keep them, we’ll help get rid of as much of the packing mess as reasonably possible. We’ll break down the boxes, gather the packing paper, bubble wrap, and other materials, and either place them in your household trash or, when possible, take some of the small and medium boxes with us to reuse for future organizing projects.
Our goal is that when we leave, you’re not left with a home full of empty boxes and packing trash. Instead, your home feels unpacked, organized, functional, and ready to enjoy.
What’s Not Included in Our Unpacking and Organizing Services
We don’t transport or move your belongings, handle construction work, space planning, furniture placement, large decor placement, pre-moving planning, remove hazardous materials, or provide deep cleaning.

Our Approach: Room-by-Room Unpacking
No matter what room we’re helping you unpack and organize or how many rooms you want help with, we always work room by room.
This helps keep everything neat, organized, and together so miscellaneous items don’t end up spread throughout the home or placed in rooms where they don’t belong.
Working room by room also helps make the unpacking and organizing process quicker and more efficient because we can fully focus on getting one space functional before moving on to the next.
Whether you want help with your kitchen, pantry, bedroom, garage, closets, bathrooms, or any other area of your home, we’ll help you unpack, organize, and get ready for everyday use.
We Focus on Unpacking the Essential Areas First
We always focus on unpacking the essential rooms first, meaning the areas that have the items you’re going to need access to right away.
Most clients want to start with those spaces anyway. So that usually includes the kitchen, pantry, bedrooms, closets, bathrooms, and laundry room.
Once those day-to-day areas are unpacked and organized, we can move on to lower-priority spaces like the garage, attic, or basement. Those areas usually aren’t as urgent, so we typically save them for last if you’d like help with them too.
Here are a few examples of the areas we can help you unpack and organize and what that process may look like in each space.
Kitchen Setup and Organization
Our kitchen unpacking and organizing process focuses on creating a kitchen that’s practical for your daily routine. Rather than simply filling cabinets, we thoughtfully organize and put everything away so your kitchen is easy to cook in, clean, and maintain.
The kitchen is usually one of the first rooms people want unpacked because it’s one of the most-used spaces in the home.
Rather than simply filling cabinets, we take the time to create an organized kitchen that’s easy to cook, clean, and find things in. We want it to work for you.

Pantry Setup and Organization
A well-organized pantry makes cooking, packing lunches, baking, and meal prep so much easier. As we unpack your pantry items, we’ll sort and organize your food, snacks, baking supplies, spices, and other pantry items into logical categories so everything has a designated place.
We’ll organize your pantry in a way that’s easy to maintain and simple to navigate, making it easier to see what you have and quickly find what you need.

Closet Setup and Organization
We help unpack and organize your closet so you don’t have to spend hours digging through boxes looking for clothes. Our closet organizing services include wardrobe hanging, folding and organizing drawers, putting away shoes and accessories, and organizing everything by type so it’s easy to find what you need.
Our goal is to get your closet completely unpacked and organized, so you can walk in, find what you’re looking for, and start feeling settled into your new home.
If organization products like drawer dividers or bins would make your closet more functional, we’re happy to make product recommendations for those as well. Labeling is always optional and can be included as well.

Bedroom Unpacking and Organizing
We help unpack and organize your bedroom so you can start using it right away.
We’ll unpack your clothes, shoes, linens, and other bedroom items, figure out the best place for everything, and organize your closets, dressers, and storage spaces so they’re easy to use.
If you come across items you’re thinking about donating or moving to another room, we’ll set those aside and keep everything together until you’ve made a final decision.

Laundry Room Unpacking and Organizing
We help unpack and organize your laundry room so you can get back to your normal routine sooner.
We’ll unpack and put away your laundry supplies, detergents, cleaning products, and other essentials, then organize everything in a way that makes sense for your home. That way, you’re not digging through boxes every time you need to do a load of laundry.

Home Office Organization
We’ll help unpack and organize your home office so it’s functional from day one.
From office supplies and paperwork to files, printers, and electronics, we’ll figure out where everything belongs, put it away in a way that makes sense, and create simple systems to help keep your workspace organized long after the boxes are gone.
We won’t make decisions about important documents or what to keep or throw away without your approval.

Donation Drop Off Assistance
Donation coordination is available if you decide there are items you’d rather donate as you’re unpacking. We can separate donation-ready items and help take your donations to local drop-off sites in the Northshore.

What Happens to the Empty Boxes and Packing Trash?
Before we begin, we’ll ask whether you want to keep your boxes and packing materials (like packing paper, used bubble wrap, and broken down boxes). Some clients prefer to save them because they expect to move again soon and don’t want to purchase new supplies later.
If you don’t want to keep them, we’ll break down the boxes and help dispose of the packing materials as much as reasonably possible. While we don’t offer dedicated box removal services, we’ll help manage the empty boxes and packing materials and can set them out for your scheduled trash or recycling pickup if you’d like.
Depending on the project, we may place packing paper and other materials in your household trash, and we may be able to take some small and medium boxes with us. We often reuse boxes during future decluttering and organizing projects.
While we can’t always haul away every box or large amount of moving debris, we will help manage the packing materials and leave everything neat and consolidated.
We’re not going to unpack your home and leave you surrounded by a mess of empty boxes and packing trash.

Are Unpacking Services Worth the Cost?
The cost of unpacking and organizing depends on things like the size of your home, how many boxes you have, how many organizers you need, and any decluttering you’d like to do along the way.
Instead of focusing only on the price, think about how much time you’ll save, how quickly your home will be functional again, and whether getting settled sooner is worth the investment
Schedule a Consultation to talk through your move, discuss your priorities, and decide which rooms you’d like to set up first.

How the Unpacking Process Works
1. Tell Us Your Priorities: We start by talking about your move (typically it’s with the Owner of My Professional Organizer, Olivia Parks), how many boxes you have, which rooms you’d like us to focus on first, and anything you need access to right away.
We also find out if you’d like help decluttering as we unpack and organize, as this does make the project longer. It’s where we help you figure out what you’d like to keep or donate before your move.
2. Get a Clear Plan: We’ll explain how we recommend tackling the project, how many organizers may be needed/what sessions we’d recommend, and whether any organizing products would be helpful.
3. Unpack and Organize: We begin with your highest-priority rooms, unpack similar items together, remove packing materials as we go, and get your home functional one space at a time.
5. Final Walkthrough: Before we leave, we’ll walk through each completed space with you (if you are home), make any adjustments you’d like while we are still there, and answer questions so you’re comfortable maintaining your new organizing systems.

The Cost of Unpacking Yourself vs. Hiring a Professional Unpacker
Unpacking everything yourself can save money, but it also takes a lot of time and energy.
After a long move, many homeowners spend evenings and weekends living out of boxes while trying to figure out where everything should go. Hiring a professional helps you get settled faster and creates organizing systems that are designed to work for your everyday life.
The real comparison isn’t just the price.
It’s the value of getting your home set up sooner, avoiding weeks of unfinished unpacking, and reducing the stress that comes with living in a half-unpacked house. If you’re comparing pricing, learn how much unpacking services cost and what factors affect the total investment.
| DIY Unpacking | Professional Unpackers and Organizers |
|---|---|
| Takes evenings and weekends | Helps you get settled into your home faster |
| You handle all the lifting, unpacking, and setup | We handle the heavy lifting, strategic unpacking, and organizing |
| You decide where everything goes | We create practical organizing systems that fit your daily routine |
| Rooms may stay full of boxes for weeks | Priority rooms become functional sooner |
| Packing paper and boxes pile up | We remove packing paper and break down boxes as we work |
| Can feel overwhelming after a move | Saves time, energy, and stress |
| No upfront cost, but requires your time and effort | A professional service that lets you focus on work, family, and settling into your new home |
When Hiring My Professional Organizer Is Worth It
Hiring a professional organizer is often worth it if you’re balancing work, school, travel, caregiving, or simply don’t have the time or energy to unpack after a move.
It’s also a great option for larger moves, where unopened boxes can take over your garage, closets, or spare bedrooms for weeks or even months.
Moving is also the perfect time to add decluttering services and improve your storage solutions before everything gets put away.
Hiring an Unpacking and Organizing Service is a Luxury
Hiring a professional unpacking and organizing service is definitely a luxury. Having someone take care of the physical work of unpacking, sorting, organizing, putting everything away, breaking down boxes, and managing the packing materials is truly a treat, especially after the stress and exhaustion of moving.
However, it is also an investment in your home, your time, your peace of mind, and your family. Instead of spending weeks or months living out of boxes, you can have your home thoughtfully set up from the beginning.
When we unpack and organize a space, our goal isn’t to create a temporary solution. We create functional systems that make sense for your household and help set you up for long-term success. Ideally, once everything is organized properly, you shouldn’t need to hire us again anytime soon.
Of course, some clients choose to schedule a refresh once or twice a year, once every few years, or whenever their needs change. However, the initial unpacking and organizing service is designed to give you a strong foundation that’s easier to maintain.
We often hear from clients who moved six months ago, or even longer, and quickly placed items wherever they fit just to get through the move. Months later, they’re still dealing with spaces that never became fully functional.
Investing in professional help at the beginning can prevent that frustration and help your new home feel settled much sooner.
If it fits your budget, professional unpacking and organizing can absolutely be worth the investment. You are not only paying to have boxes unpacked. You are paying to have your home set up thoughtfully, efficiently, and correctly from the start.
So Is It Worth It?
For many homeowners, the answer is yes.
An unpacking and organizing service helps you get settled faster, avoid living out of boxes, and create organizing systems that make everyday life easier. Instead of spending weeks unpacking a little at a time, you can start enjoying your new home much sooner.
Hiring a professional organizer is often worth it if you’re balancing work, school, travel, caregiving, or simply don’t have the time or energy to unpack after a move.
That said, it isn’t the right fit for everyone.
If your move is small, you have plenty of time, and you’re comfortable unpacking on your own, you may not need professional help. A consultation can help you decide whether a full unpacking service or just a few hours of assistance makes the most sense.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does a Mandeville Unpacking and Organizing Service Cost?
The cost of post-move unpacking and organizing services depends on the size of your move, how many rooms you’d like help with, and the level of support you’re looking for. No two moves are exactly alike, so pricing varies from one project to the next.
Some homeowners just need help getting their kitchen and a few key spaces unpacked, while others hire us to organize their entire home after a move. The larger the project, the more time and organizers it typically requires.
Here on the Northshore, our unpacking and organizing projects typically start around $795, with most clients investing between $795 and $4,000, depending on the size and scope of the project. We do not offer hourly pricing.
Full-home unpacking is a much larger project, though, and starts around $5,000+.
During your consultation, we’ll learn more about your move, your priorities, and the rooms you’d like us to focus on so we can provide a personalized quote with no surprises.
What Northshore areas do you provide unpacking services in?
We provide unpacking and organizing services throughout the Northshore, including Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, Hammond, Folsom, Ponchatoula, Slidell, Lacombe, and surrounding areas.
What if I just threw everything into boxes when I packed?
That’s actually more common than you might think, and it’s completely fine.
Many people have to pack on a time crunch; organizing may not be their thing, or they may already know they are hiring an unpacking and organizing service to help them once they move.
There’s no need to worry if similar items were not packed together or if everything feels mixed up.
As we unpack, we will help sort and categorize everything, group like items together, and put everything away in the areas where it makes the most sense.
What rooms should I have unpack first after moving?
That’s completely up to you and what you want help with most. However, many of our clients choose to start with the areas they need to use every day, such as the kitchen, bedrooms, closets, or bathrooms.
Starting with the most essential rooms and everyday items can help your new home feel more functional and comfortable much faster.
Can you help me unpack if I’m still waiting on furniture or storage systems?
Yes. We can absolutely still help you get unpacked and organized. However, we do typically recommend having enough storage space available for your belongings, such as closets, dressers, cabinets, shelving, or other furniture pieces.
You will usually get the most out of your session when there is a designated place for everything to go. If you are still waiting on major storage pieces, we may eventually reach a stopping point because there is nowhere to fully put certain items away.
We can still sort, categorize, and organize as much as possible with the space you currently have.
Will my home actually stay organized after you’re done?
When we unpack and organize your home, we don’t just put things away. We help create systems based on how you use your space so that everything feels functional and makes sense for your everyday life.
Of course, it will ultimately be up to you and your household to maintain those systems.
However, many of our clients also reach out every few months, once a year, or whenever they feel like their space needs a refresh. We are always happy to come back and help you get everything back in order.
Can I unpack everything myself and then have a professional organizer organize and put everything away?
Yes. Many of our clients do exactly that.
If you’d rather spend your time opening boxes before we arrive, that’s completely fine. Once we’re there, we’ll focus on figuring out where everything belongs, organizing your cabinets, drawers, closets, and shelves, and putting everything away in a way that makes sense for how you live.
Since our services are session-based, some clients prefer to use that time for the organizing rather than the actual unpacking. We’re happy to jump in wherever you need us most.
What’s the biggest mistake people make after moving into a new home?
One of the biggest mistakes we see is that people put things wherever they fit just so they can get everything out of the boxes. It’s meant to be temporary, but then life gets busy.
Weeks turn into months, and before they know it, they’re still digging through cabinets, closets, and drawers that don’t really work for them.
After helping more than 1,000 clients organize their homes, we’ve heard this story over and over again.
Our advice is to set aside dedicated time to unpack and organize your home the right way from the beginning.
Whether that means taking a weekend to focus on it yourself, taking a few days off work, or hiring a professional unpacking and organizing service, creating systems that work for your daily routine from the start can save you a lot of frustration later.
Who is an unpacking and organizing service worth it for?
Honestly, an unpacking and organizing service can benefit just about anybody. There’s not one specific age group or type of person that it’s worth it for. We work with all kinds of clients, and everyone has a different reason for wanting help.
For example, we often help busy families and parents who don’t have the time or energy to unpack after a move. We help busy professionals and business owners who’d rather spend their time getting back to work than living out of boxes.
We also work with seniors who are downsizing and need help getting settled into their new home. We’ve even helped college students and young adults unpack and get organized in their dorms, apartments, and off-campus housing.
We also have clients who recently moved and just want to get settled in faster, or people who have family or guests coming soon and want their home unpacked and organized before everyone arrives.
At the end of the day, if you’re moving into a new home or unpacking after a renovation and don’t want to spend weeks or even months living out of boxes, an unpacking and organizing service is worth considering. It’s really about getting your home set up in a way that works for you from the very beginning.
