What Does Working With a Professional Organizer Look Like?
Every organizing project is different because it depends on what you want help with. But one of the most common reasons people hire a professional organizer is for help decluttering and organizing a space.
Sometimes a client wants help with both decluttering and organizing, while other times they simply want help organizing what they already have.
When decluttering is part of the project, your organizer can help you go through your belongings and decide what you want to keep, toss, donate, or relocate before everything is organized. Some people want the physical help of going through everything, while others also appreciate having someone there for guidance, support, and accountability.
Once you’ve decided what you’re keeping, your organizer can begin sorting, categorizing, and organizing everything in a way that makes sense for the space and how you use it.
For an in-home organizing session, our organizers also typically arrive with a supply bag containing basic items we may need during the project, such as trash bags, paper towels, cleaning wipes, Ziploc bags, tape, and scissors.
Your professional organizer will arrive at the scheduled time for your session ready to get started. Typically, they’ll already have an idea of what you’re wanting help with and a plan for what you’d like to accomplish that day.
Professional organizing sessions are usually booked in blocks of time. At My Professional Organizer, our sessions are typically five or five and a half hours, depending on the project. We’ve found this gives us a good amount of time to get into a space and make real progress.
During your session, your organizer will work with you to get as much done as possible within the time you’ve booked. Some organizing projects can be completed in one session, while larger projects may take multiple sessions.
It really depends on the project, how much you want help with, and your budget.
