Before Your Packing Day
Before your scheduled packing service, we’ll already have a plan in place. We’ll know which areas of your home we’re packing and answer any questions before we arrive.
We’ll also go over packing supplies with you. Some clients prefer that we assist them in getting the packing supplies needed for the project, while others would rather purchase the supplies themselves after we provide recommendations. We’ll decide what works best for you ahead of time, so there aren’t any surprises on packing day.
But for most packing projects, you can expect you’ll need boxes in various sizes, bubble wrap, tape, packing paper, and glass or dish packing kits.
We also ask that you set aside any essential items you’ll need before your move. This helps us start packing right away when we arrive and ensures we don’t accidentally pack anything you’ll still need.
Since we typically seal and label your boxes as we pack, setting aside your essentials ahead of time also means you won’t have to dig back through sealed boxes looking for medications, chargers, toiletries, important documents, a few days’ worth of clothing, pet supplies, or other everyday necessities.
Need Help Decluttering Before You Pack?
If you’d like help decluttering before we start packing, we can help with that too. Whether it’s one room or your entire home, we’ll help you sort through your belongings, decide what you’d like to keep, donate, or throw away, and even take your donations to a local donation center afterward.
Decluttering before a move is completely optional, but many clients find it’s a great opportunity to start fresh. Instead of packing and moving items you no longer use or want, you can reduce the number of boxes you’re moving and make unpacking in your new home much easier.
Decluttering can be especially helpful for clients who are downsizing, including seniors.
Because decluttering adds additional time to your project, we’ll need to know when scheduling your packing service if you’d like to include it. That way, we can set aside enough time to help you both declutter and pack your home.
On Packing Day
On the day of your packing service or project day, you can expect us to arrive on time, ready to work, and with everything we need to get started.
If we’re providing the packing supplies, we’ll bring them with us. From there, we’ll get right to work packing the areas you hired us to pack while carefully protecting your belongings throughout the process.
We Get Started Right Away
After a quick walkthrough and any last-minute questions, we’ll get right to work. Our goal is to make the most of your packing session and keep the project moving efficiently while still taking the time to carefully pack your belongings.
We Pack Room by Room
Once we arrive, we’ll typically pack one room at a time instead of jumping around the house. This helps keep everything organized and makes it much easier to unpack at your new home. It also reduces the chances of items from different rooms getting mixed together.
However, if you only need a little bit of help in certain rooms, we are happy to pack however you would like.
We Organize as We Pack
We organize your belongings as we pack. This is completely optional, but it’s something many of our clients choose because it makes unpacking and getting settled into your new home much easier.
For example, if you have junk drawers in your kitchen, we’ll sort and organize everything before packing—grouping pens, office supplies, batteries, tools, manuals, and other miscellaneous items together instead of simply placing everything into a box.
If your dresser drawers are unfolded or disorganized, we can fold and organize your clothing before packing it. The same goes for closets. If you’d like, we can organize your closet items as we pack by sorting clothing by category and organizing shoes and accessories. That way, unpacking into your new home is much easier.
Organizing while we pack does add some additional time to your project, so we’ll always discuss this with you in advance and see if it’s something you’d like us to include.
Most of our clients choose this option because it saves them time later, makes unpacking much more efficient, and eliminates one more task during an already stressful move.
