How to Get Clients as a Professional Organizer in 2024

Want to learn how to get clients as a professional organizer in 2024?

As a professional organizer myself, I’ve used various methods to generate leads for my organizing business.

Today, I will highlight the six best marketing channels that have helped us build a multi-six-figure organizing business.

The list includes:

  • Getting New Leads From Previous Clients
  • Utilizing Google to Drive Leads in Your Sleep
  • Posting in Local Facebook Groups
  • Paying for Leads on Thumbtack
  • Generating Leads Through Referrals
  • Utilize Social Media Platforms

Let’s get started!

1. Getting New Leads From Previous Clients

Our most effective method for generating new leads is through previous clients. In the past 12 months, 35% of our new leads have come from past clients.

Previous clients are often overlooked as sources for new leads, and I cannot stress the importance of continuing the conversation with your previous clients.

To leverage this:

  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Consistently high-quality service ensures clients are satisfied and more likely to return or refer others.
  • Routinely Reach Out: Stay connected with past clients through follow-up emails, newsletters, or text check-ins.

We stress providing a quality experience with our team throughout every touch point so that we can capitalize on this great source of new leads.

Additionally, repeat clients are the easiest to sell. They trust you and have experience working with you, making the sales process smoother.

2. Utilizing Google to Drive Leads in Your Sleep

Google, more specifically, the Google Business Profile, comes in at #2. In fact, over 23% of our new leads in the past 12 months came from Google and our website.

Nowadays, it’s second nature for many homeowners to search for local businesses online.

When people search for information online, they’ll commonly use Google because it’s one of the top search engines worldwide.

Google’s global search engine market share was 91.88% as of June 2022

Creating a Google Business Profile is an excellent way to position your business. It’s free and easy to set up!

Once you’ve signed up, you can include the following details on your Google listing:

  • Business name
  • Logo
  • Phone Number
  • Address
  • Service Areas
  • Website URL
  • Appointment URL
  • Images
  • Business Description
  • Hours
  • Services
  • Products
  • And More

Consider filling out your profile with as much detail and information as possible about your business.

The more context you can give about the services you provide and the location you provide them in, the better.

Use the description to describe who you are, where you are located, and how you can help those seeking professional organizing services. When possible, add authentic, relevant images of projects.

Once you’ve fully completed your profile, turn your attention to generating new reviews. I cannot stress this enough.

It’s not a perfect science, but the more reviews, generally, the better performance.

Consider asking previous clients for a review, highlighting their experience working with you. Reviews can have a compounding effect on your online success and build credibility and legitimacy for your business.

Regularly update your listing with new photos, reviews, offers, and reviews for optimal performance.

3. Posting in Local Facebook Groups

Are you aware that local Facebook groups can be a goldmine for your organizing business?

Yes, really! In fact, in the past 12 months, 10% of our new clients came from local Facebook groups.

Local Facebook Group Post

We like to keep it simple and focus on what works.

We target local Facebook groups with our potential clientele, such as local mom and neighborhood groups.

Each group has its own rules, and I recommend that you follow them to avoid getting kicked out.

But if you do it the right way, Facebook groups can be a significant lead generator for your organizing business, and you don’t have to pay anything to get new leads!

You create a simple, straightforward post that is concise and includes a photo of yourself, your team, and previous projects.

We’ve found that keeping the text simple and using photos of people works best.

Quickly introduce yourself, highlight the services offered, and give multiple ways to contact you.

To improve your Facebook group marketing, create a Google Sheet with the various groups in your area categorized by location.

I’d even include a link to the group and the days you can post so that information is always available.

4. Paying for Leads on Thumbtack

We’ve stopped using Thumbtack in the past six months, but over the past 12 months, 10% of new leads have come from utilizing Thumbtack to generate leads.

Thumbtack can be an excellent way to generate interest and leads for your organizing business. We’ve had some really high highs and some really low lows with Thumbtack.

We’ve actively used Thumbtack to drive leads for our professional organizing business and sold many jobs in the $600-$5,000 range from Thumbtack. We’ve also spent a lot of money on leads that never convert.

But it’s all part of the game.

We created a guide on Thumbtack for Professional Organizers. Check it out!

We had a great year using Thumbtack in 2023, but by 2024, results and lead costs seemed to get worse and worse.

This does not mean you can’t generate good leads this way, but remember that it is a method of paying for targeted leads.

I generally prefer organic methods of marketing my organizing business, but supplementing with Thumbtack can be an intelligent way to diversify your marketing efforts and generate new leads.

5. Generating Leads Through Referrals

Over the past 12 months, over 5% of our new leads have come from referrals.

We typically generate referrals from previous clients, friends and family, and other related local businesses (realtors, moving companies, stagers).

Referrals can be a great way to generate new leads, typically of the highest quality.

A great way to generate referrals among peers is to ask, “Who else do you know that could benefit from X?” This way, you frame the answer as an actual name, not a yes or no answer.

6. Utilize Social Media Platforms

Social Media isn’t just for connecting with friends and family. It’s another free tool for marketing your home organizing business.

In the past 12 months, we’ve generated almost 5% of new leads from social media platforms (Instagram & Facebook).

There are several popular social media platforms, such as

Consider creating a business page on each social media site and fill each out with your relevant business information.

Social media sites are similar to other directory sites (Thumbtack, Yelp, FindMyOrganizer, etc.). Most allow you to fill out your profile with your business name, phone number, service areas, website URL, hours, photos, videos, and more.

You can also share before and after photos of your organizing projects, provide tips, and showcase your expertise in the field.

I highly recommend using a mix of relevant photos, including actual photos of your work, photos of yourself and team members, and anything else that highlights your identity and uniqueness.

Real photos perform much better than stock photos.

We generate a few new leads from our social media platforms, but we primarily use it as a place to showcase our portfolio.
